January 14-18, 2003 AMS-MAA annual meeting in Baltimore, MD
Arnie Pizer, Vicki Roth and I presented a mini-course introducing participants to the use of WeBWorK in calculus and pre-calculus courses. This was our third annual presentation. The class of 30 participants seems to be quite interested in investigating WeBWorK further, and perhaps adopting it for use in some of their classes.

Fall 2002 Classes:
MTH557 Topics in Differential Geometry.
The class will meet 9:30 -- 10:45 Tuesday and Thursday in Hylan 1104. For graduate students in mathematics and physics and well prepared undergraduate math majors.
MTH263 Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations
We'll study the geometric interpretation of differential equations and the classification of families of "similar" equations.
August 2, 2002 Burlington, VT
Arnie Pizer, Vicki Roth and I organized a special session on WeBWorK at the MAA summer MathFest. I found it particularly satisfying since most of the talks were given by professors from institutions other than the U of R who have adopted and extended WeBWorK in various ways.
Speaking were
- Tom Shemanske, Dartmouth College
- Mark Schmitt, Detroit Country Day School
- William Wheeler, Indiana University
- William Ziemer Jr., California State University at Long Beach
- Vicki Roth (U of R) and Angelo Segalla (California State University at Long Beach)
After the session, most of the participants adjourned to a nearby Burlington restaraunt for food and drinks. A lot of information and encouragement was exchanged during the two day meeting. I think it's a movement!
July 31, 2002 Burlington, VT.
I participated on a panel at the first meeting of the "forest-green dot" generation of NExT mathematics professors, discussing WeBWorK and accessing students progress through homework.
July 1 -- 6, 2002 Crete, Greece
Arnie Pizer, Vicki Roth and I presented a paper on WeBWorK at the 2nd International Conference on the Teaching of Mathematics at the undergraduate level (ICTM2), held this year on the island of Crete! Here are the slides we used. The ICTM2 website has a downloadable pdf file of the full paper.

March 14-16
Vicki Roth and I represented WeBWorK at a very useful meeting held March 14-16 in Washington, DC. The MAA sponsored the meeting for NSF DUE grant (undergraduate education) primary investigators. . Many of the materials presented are stored at the MAA website.
Several other institutions using WeBWorK were also represented, including CSU at Long Beach, University of Virginia, Gustavus Adolphus College, and Arizona State University.
I've made a list of NSF grants involving WeBWorK and copy of the slides Vicki and I used in our presentation.
This weekend I'll be at the low dimensional geometry and topology conference at Ohio State University.
